The City of Alexandria has released its schedule of services and closures for George Washington's Birthday on February 19, 2024. As part of the observance, government offices will be closed, and several other schedule changes will be in effect.

DASH bus service will operate on a Saturday schedule, while the Alexandria Transit Company administrative offices will be closed. The popular King Street Trolley will continue its regular service from King Street Metro to City Hall/Market Square, running every 15 minutes from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Animal adoptions will begin at noon at the city's shelter, which will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For any animal emergencies or wildlife concerns, residents are urged to call 703.746.4444.

The courts will also be closed on George Washington's Birthday, with the General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Court Service Unit, Circuit Court, and the Clerk of Circuit Court all observing the holiday.

Emergency hotlines, including the Child Protective Services Hotline, the Domestic Violence Hotline, the Emergency Mental Health Services hotline, the Adult Protective Services hotline, and the Sexual Assault Hotline will all be operational 24/7.

Several city facilities will be closed on George Washington's Birthday, including the Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, Teen Wellness Center, and all other museums except for the Freedom House Museum, Gadsby's Tavern Museum, Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum, and Friendship Firehouse Museum, which will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The impound lot will be closed on the holiday, with fees still accruing on Saturday and Sunday but not on holidays.

All Alexandria Library branches will be closed, and the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts. However, temporary no-parking signs will still be enforced.

For recreation, Chinquapin Park Recreation Center and Aquatics Facility, Charles Houston Recreation, and Patrick Henry Recreation Centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while all other City of Alexandria recreation and nature centers will be closed.

Residents are reminded that residential refuse, recycling, and yard waste collection will be delayed by one day during the week of George Washington's Birthday. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center will also be closed on that day.

The city's communication services extend to those who prefer communication in another language, with free interpretation and translation services available by emailing LanguageAccess@alexandriava.gov or calling 703.746.3960.

As the City of Alexandria prepares to honor George Washington's Birthday, residents are encouraged to take note of these schedule changes and closures to ensure a smooth and enjoyable holiday.
