The Loudoun County Government announced on Mar. 5 that access to the Government Center parking garage will be maintained during upcoming construction work on the property adjacent to the garage, which is set to begin March 9 and last about eight weeks.
The project will require closing a segment of the westbound lanes of Loudoun Street SE, affecting how visitors enter and exit the parking facility. The closure is expected to impact public access, but officials say measures are in place to ensure continued entry and exit for visitors throughout the duration of construction.
According to the announcement, between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, Loudoun Street will be closed to all through traffic between Harrison and King Streets. However, public access to the garage will remain available until any public meetings at the Government Center that extend beyond 9:00 p.m. have concluded.
Visitors entering the garage will only be able to do so from the westbound lane of Loudoun Street with a right-turn-only into the facility. Those approaching from points west will be detoured onto South King Street, then East Market Street, and finally Harrison Street SE before making a right turn into the parking garage. Detour signs and electronic message boards will guide motorists along these routes.
Both exits from the garage are expected to stay open at all times. Vehicles exiting via Church Street must turn right (westbound) onto Loudoun Street, while those using the Loudoun Street exit must turn left (eastbound). Drivers navigating through Leesburg’s Historic District are urged by officials to use caution and follow posted detours and directions.
A map showing traffic flow for entering and exiting the Government Center parking garage is available online as a PDF. Additional details about impacts and detours can be found in a news release from the Town of Leesburg.
