The City of Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities announced on May 22 that the outdoor pool season will begin on Saturday, May 23. Residents and visitors are invited to use Old Town Pool, Warwick Pool, and Memorial Pool as part of the summer opening.
The start of pool season is significant for many community members looking forward to swimming outdoors as warmer weather arrives. The city said staff will monitor weather conditions closely throughout the holiday weekend to keep residents informed and safe.
“Alexandria, we know many of you are looking forward to swimming outdoors, and the RPCA team is ready to welcome everyone for a fun and safe summer season. As we head into the holiday weekend, staff will continue to closely monitor weather conditions to ensure residents remain informed and safe,” according to the Department’s announcement.
Updates about pool schedules, closures due to weather, and seasonal calendars can be found at Alexandria Aquatics. The department also encourages residents to follow its social media channels for information about programs, classes, activities, public art installations, special events, and more.
Alexandria provides services within its defined boundaries as an independent city with a council-manager form of government in which the City Council selects a manager for operations. The city incorporates racial and social equity into policies in order to foster fair outcomes across the community; it also maintains museums documenting local history such as African American heritage sites. These efforts contribute toward enhancing community identity through interpretation of local social and cultural history according to the official website.
For questions or further information about pool operations or accessibility accommodations this summer season—including language access—residents are encouraged by officials to contact city representatives via email or phone.
