The Alexandria Health Department (AHD) and the Partnership of Alexandria (PHA) have provided an update on the progress of the 2025-2030 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). They are encouraging residents to participate in ongoing efforts to improve health outcomes in the city.
The CHIP, developed after a recent Community Health Assessment, will address three main areas: mental wellness across Alexandria, as well as specific initiatives for the Landmark/Van Dorn and Arlandria neighborhoods. AHD and PHA have formed coalitions that include residents, local organizations, and others who are active in Alexandria. These groups help set priorities and propose actions for community health improvement. Participation is open to all community members without a formal application process.
For mental wellness, the coalition has finalized its vision statement: “Alexandria is a community where everyone can feel safe, connected, and supported, because mental health and wellness are prioritized, accessible, and part of everyday life.” The group is now considering which focus areas should be included in the plan. Residents can vote online or attend upcoming meetings to contribute.
The Landmark/Van Dorn coalition’s vision statement reads: “Landmark/Van Dorn is a community where everyone has what they need to thrive. It is a neighborhood rooted in hope, strengthened by cultural richness, and connected by opportunities that lift every neighbor.” Neighborhood boundaries have been set; next steps include developing focus areas for future voting.
In Arlandria, AHD and PHA continue working with residents to identify suitable meeting times and locations. Coalition meetings for this neighborhood will be conducted in Spanish with interpretation available upon request.
Residents interested in joining any coalition or learning more about CHIP activities can sign up for updates or attend upcoming meetings. Information about accessibility accommodations or language services is also available through designated contacts.
According to the official website, Alexandria operates as an independent municipal government offering public services within defined boundaries since its establishment along the Potomac River in 1749. The city maintains historic sites while promoting equity through policies designed for fair outcomes among residents. It uses a council-manager form of government with centralized services such as Alex311 for resident support.
Meetings are scheduled at various locations throughout January and February 2026. For those unable to attend but wishing to participate or stay informed about coalition work, additional resources are provided online through AHD’s CHIP website.
