The Alexandria Health Department (AHD) has launched the “Love Safely & Save” campaign for February, encouraging residents to book sexual or reproductive health appointments and receive discounts at local businesses. Those who schedule an appointment at AHD’s main clinic this month will be given a “Cupid Coupon,” which provides 5% off purchases, up to $10, at participating Alexandria businesses. The coupons are valid through March 31, 2026.

Eligible appointments include STI testing and treatment, cervical cancer screenings and well-woman visits, birth control counseling or administration, pregnancy testing, and emergency contraception pick-up. Residents who have already booked qualifying appointments in February are automatically included in the promotion.

A full list of participating businesses is available on the campaign website. Local businesses interested in joining can contact AHD throughout February.

Dr. David Rose, Director of the Alexandria Health Department, said: “Sexual health is an integral part of one’s holistic well-being and it is essential for self-care and healthy relationships.

“We want people to reflect on their health, talk openly with partners, and take advantage of local resources. Plus, with local businesses getting on board, we hope that this uplifts the importance of sexual health across our entire city.”

AHD aims to raise awareness about sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention during the campaign. The department reports that Alexandria has some of the highest STI rates in Virginia and that these rates have been increasing over the past decade.

“Getting a free STI test is the only way to know if you have an STI,” Dr. Rose said. “This February, come in for a free STI test and take safe next steps for yourself and your partners.”
