The Alexandria Health Department has issued a notice regarding possible measles exposures in northern Virginia, including one in Alexandria. The department is working with health officials to track individuals who may have been exposed after two adults who traveled together domestically were confirmed to have measles.
Potential exposure sites in Alexandria include an office building at 2800 Eisenhower Avenue on Tuesday, February 17, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Organizations located within this building are U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Application Support Center, Columbia Associates, Potomac Management Resources, Fairfax Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Intelligent Office, National Military Family Association, ClearChoice Dental Implant Center, TK Elevator Northern Virginia, gTANGIBLE Corporation, Bodies in Motion Physical Therapy, and OneMain Financial.
Other potential exposure sites listed by health officials are primarily in Manassas and Gainesville. These include Harris Teeter (10060 Market Circle), Walmart (9401 Liberia Avenue), Marco’s Pizza (9223 Sudley Road), Bull Run Unitarian Universalists (9350 Main Street), Best Buy Outlet (7665 Sudley Road), Mountaintop Church (9213 Center Street) on multiple dates and times between February 13 and February 16. Additional locations include Lidl (9795 Liberia Avenue), Target (9900 Sowder Village Square), and Medical Center (7051 Heathcote Village Way).
Health authorities state that any further identified exposure sites will be posted on the VDH Measles website. There have been ten reported cases of measles in Virginia so far in 2026.
The department recommends that anyone present at these locations during the specified times should report their exposure by completing a short survey for the Virginia Department of Health. Officials will follow up if additional action or time-sensitive treatment is necessary.
People are also advised to verify their vaccination status for measles. “If you’ve had two doses of measles vaccine, were born before 1957, or have had measles, then you’re considered protected and won’t need to take extra steps.” Those who are severely immunocompromised should consult with their doctor or contact their local health department.
Symptoms of measles can appear up to 21 days after exposure and may include runny nose, fever over 101°F, cough, red watery eyes, and rash. If symptoms develop after possible exposure, individuals should stay away from others and contact a healthcare provider immediately.
Vaccination records can be checked through a healthcare provider or online via the Virginia MMR record portal for those vaccinated in-state; other states offer similar services. Vaccines are available from doctors or pharmacies throughout Virginia.
Additional information about measles symptoms and vaccines is available on the VDH Measles website.
