Families attended the annual Tons of Trucks event in Alexandria, where children and adults had the opportunity to explore a variety of city vehicles, including fire engines, police cars, DASH buses, school buses, and snowplows. Attendees interacted with city staff responsible for maintaining daily operations in Alexandria.
Children participated in activities such as honking horns and sitting in the driver’s seat of large vehicles that are not typically accessible to the public. The event also featured art projects from the Mobile Art Lab, hands-on experiences with Alexandria Archaeology, and information booths from organizations like the American Red Cross, GO Alex, Volunteer Alexandria, among others. Music was provided by DJ One Luv.
The next Tons of Trucks event is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026. Updates will be available on the Tons of Trucks website.

“We had a great turnout as families climbed inside and explored fire engines, police vehicles, DASH and school buses, snowplows, and more,” according to organizers. “Kids had a blast honking horns and getting a driver’s-seat view of the vehicles they don’t usually get to see up close.” Organizers added: “We are already looking forward to next year’s event… we hope to see you again next year!”
