The City of Alexandria, in partnership with Arlington County, is launching a new volunteer program called EcoAmbassadors, which will begin in Fall 2025. The initiative aims to train volunteers to promote climate and energy-focused actions within their communities.

According to the announcement, the EcoAmbassadors program “will bring together volunteers who are passionate about helping neighbors commit to personal activities that will make our neighborhoods and homes healthier and more livable.” Training for participants will be based on the City of Alexandria Environmental Action Plan as well as Arlington’s Community Energy Plan. The focus areas include reducing household energy use through electrification, encouraging environmentally friendly transportation options, and minimizing waste.

EcoAction Arlington and the Virginia Cooperative Extension are managing the program with support from both Alexandria and Arlington governments. The program is open to individuals aged 16 or older. The application fee is $110; however, students can participate at no cost, and a needs-based waiver is available upon request.

The deadline for applications is October 1. Interested applicants can find additional information at ecoactionarlington.org/ecoambassadors or by contacting bill@ecoactionarlington.org.
