On October 10, the City of Alexandria is inviting residents to participate in World Pickleball Day activities at several local recreation centers. The William Ramsay Recreation Center will host a free event from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., offering beginner-friendly pickleball classes, exhibition games, and equipment for all ages. No prior experience or registration is needed.
“Bring your friends, family, and curiosity — and discover why pickleball is taking the country by storm!” organizers stated.
In addition to gameplay events, Alexandria is introducing a pilot program that tests Quiet Pickleballs at Lee Center and Eugene Simpson Stadium Park. The new balls are intended to lower noise levels for those living or working near pickleball courts while maintaining play quality.
“Also happening today, the City of Alexandria is proud to launch a new pilot program testing Quiet Pickleballs — designed to reduce noise for nearby residents, businesses, and park-goers without sacrificing the quality of play,” according to city officials.
Attendees at these pilot locations can try out the quiet balls and provide feedback via QR code surveys posted on-site.
For those needing disability accommodations or language interpretation services, contact information has been provided by city staff.
