The Alexandria Police Department has released body-worn camera footage from the August 15, 2025, in-custody death of Allan Tucker II. The release was made public during a press conference held by Chief of Police Tarrick McGuire. The department is withholding the names of the officers involved for safety reasons. Those officers are currently on administrative duty while investigations continue.

On August 15 at approximately 5:07 PM, police responded to reports of unknown trouble in the 2800 block of N. Beauregard. Multiple calls to 911 described a man running through apartment hallways, yelling and knocking on doors. Officers found Mr. Tucker in the hallway and attempted to de-escalate the situation before arresting him for public intoxication. He was transported to the Alexandria Adult Detention Center where he later required medical assistance and died despite life-saving efforts by officers.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine Mr. Tucker’s cause and manner of death.

Chief McGuire addressed the community during the press conference:

“This past week has been an incredibly difficult time for our police department, our community, and most importantly, for the family of Allan Tucker II. We ask for patience as we navigate this investigation. We are committed to a full and transparent review of this incident. That means following the facts wherever they lead, carefully examining all available evidence, interviewing witnesses, and assessing officer actions in accordance with departmental policy and the law.

Our department stands by the principles of procedural justice. We are dedicated to taking the necessary and appropriate steps to ensure the investigation is completed thoroughly, fairly, and based solely on the facts.”

Three separate investigations are underway regarding Mr. Tucker’s death: a criminal investigation led by a regional Critical Investigative Response Team (CIRT), an internal review by APD’s Office of Professional Responsibility into possible policy violations, and an independent inquiry by the Office of the Independent Police Auditor. The Independent Police Auditor reports directly to Alexandria’s Mayor and City Council and works with a Police Oversight Board established by city ordinance.
