The City of Alexandria has announced its participation in Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October, aligning with a global initiative led by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA). The campaign aims to encourage safer digital practices among both individuals and organizations.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month, now in its 22nd year, encourages people to take responsibility for their online safety. This year’s theme is “Stay Safe Online,” focusing on empathy, accessibility, and shared responsibility in building a secure digital environment.

During October, Alexandria will highlight four key cybersecurity habits: using strong passwords with a password manager, enabling multifactor authentication, keeping software updated, and recognizing as well as reporting phishing attempts and scams.

The city is organizing events and training sessions for employees throughout the month to raise awareness about cybersecurity risks and promote preparedness. These efforts are part of Alexandria’s commitment to fostering a culture where everyone contributes to online security.

For more information about Cybersecurity Awareness Month, resources are available at the NCA’s website at https://staysafeonline.org/ or CISA’s website at https://www.cisa.gov/cybersecurity-awareness-month.
