The City of Alexandria will hold a community meeting to discuss its Flood Resilience Plan on Monday, November 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Patrick Henry Recreation Center at 4653 Taney Avenue and will also be accessible online via Zoom.

During the meeting, city officials will present a summary of feedback gathered from a recent flood survey, share draft results from a flood model and community vulnerability analysis, and offer a question-and-answer session. Attendees will have an opportunity to provide input about how flooding affects their neighborhoods.

“The meeting will include a presentation summarizing the feedback received from the flood survey, draft flood model results and community vulnerability analysis, a Q&A, and the opportunity to provide input on how flooding impacts the community.”

The in-person location can be reached using the free DASH Bus Route A25. After the event, a recording will be available on the city’s Flood Resilience Plan webpage.

The virtual portion of the meeting can be accessed through Zoom with Meeting ID 955 076 843 09 and passcode 123456. Dial-in access is also available by calling 1.301.715.8592.

In 2024, Alexandria received funding from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Community Flood Preparedness Fund to develop this comprehensive plan. The initiative builds on earlier efforts from the city’s original resilience plan established in 2021 and lessons learned through Flood Action Alexandria. The goal is to identify hazards related to flooding and implement mitigation strategies across affected areas.

As part of developing this plan, city staff collected feedback not only through an online survey but also by attending local farmers’ markets and other events to hear directly from residents about their experiences with flooding. This information—along with additional input gathered during Monday’s meeting—will help shape future planning efforts.

For those needing disability accommodations or language interpretation services for the meeting, contact information has been provided for Jessica Lassetter, Senior Environmental Specialist (jessica.lassetter@alexandriava.gov or 703.746.4127), as well as for language access support (LanguageAccess@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.3960).
