The City of Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities will hold a community meeting on Tuesday, September 16, at 7 p.m. to discuss the Old Town Pool Renovation Project. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Oswald Durant Center located at 1605 Cameron Street in Alexandria.
City staff are set to provide an update on the renovation project and present the proposed design for a new pool and bathhouse facility. Community members are encouraged to attend and share their feedback as plans progress.
Hashim T. Taylor, Director of the Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities (RPCA), addressed recent maintenance challenges and expressed optimism about future improvements: “We appreciate the community’s flexibility and patience throughout this summer as we managed and communicated the closures and maintenance repairs. As the pool turned 50 this year, we are looking forward to a better future by initiating and completing major repairs and improvements, ensuring consistent service and operations for the community in the near future.”
The renovation project aims to fully replace both the existing pool and bathhouse with updated facilities that align with current needs. Planning began in 2012 following an Aquatic Facilities Study conducted by the city, which highlighted infrastructure replacement as a priority. Funding for this effort comes from Alexandria’s Capital Improvement Program.
