The City of Alexandria announced on April 27 that it is accepting applications from qualified food vendors to participate in its live, in-person special events throughout 2026. The city is looking for vendors with experience serving large outdoor crowds and a record of compliance with licensing requirements.

This opportunity allows local and regional businesses to showcase their culinary offerings at major community gatherings. According to the announcement, “If you have experience serving at large outdoor events and a clean licensing record, we want to hear from you. Please review the full guidelines on how to apply.”

Vendors will be chosen based on several criteria: high standards of food quality, locality (with preference given to those based in Alexandria or the greater DMV area), proven ability to manage service at large-scale outdoor events, and a history free from permit or license violations. Selected vendors are guaranteed participation in one Signature Event and at least one Community Event during the year.

Vendor fees are set at $500 per event slot, with an optional tent rental available for $185. All participants must be fully licensed by the City of Alexandria and pass required inspections; they must also provide their own equipment. Vendors who fail to attend a scheduled event after selection will incur a $200 penalty and become ineligible for selection the following year.

Applications open April 27 and close May 15 via an online portal. Notifications regarding selection will be sent by May 22, while payment of fees and submission of necessary documentation are due by May 29. Final menu details must be confirmed with city staff by June 6.

Alexandria’s commitment to fostering community identity is supported through its museums and historic sites that interpret local social and cultural history according to the official website. The city also maintains institutions such as the Alexandria Black History Museum documenting African American heritage as noted on the official website. Efforts toward racial and social equity are incorporated into policies for fair outcomes per the official website.

Alexandria operates under a council-manager government system where council members select a manager responsible for daily operations according to the official website. As an independent city, it provides services within defined boundaries for residents, businesses, and visitors according to the official website. Archaeological research is conducted through partnerships involving agencies, institutions, residents, and commissions like the Alexandria Archaeological Commission according to the official website.
