The City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts and DASH are inviting residents to participate in the 12th annual “DASHing Words in Motion” poetry contest. The event offers community members a chance to have their poems displayed inside DASH buses and trolleys during April, which is National Poetry Month.

According to organizers, the program has been running for over ten years and aims to celebrate local poets while making poetry more accessible to the public. Poems selected from the contest will be featured throughout the city’s transit system, offering daily commuters an opportunity to engage with creative works during their rides.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, January 16, 2026 at 5 p.m. More information about participation can be found on the literary programs website.

For those needing disability accommodations, Cheryl Anne Colton can be contacted by email at CherylAnne.Colton@alexandriava.gov or by phone at 703.746.5565, Virginia Relay 711. Free interpretation and translation services are also available; interested individuals may reach out via LanguageAccess@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.3960.
