The City of Alexandria announced on April 11 that the deadline to register or update voter registration for the upcoming special election is Tuesday, April 14. After this date, individuals who wish to register will need to use same day registration and cast a provisional ballot.
This special election, scheduled for April 21, includes a contest for a Member of City Council and a proposed statewide constitutional amendment. All qualified Virginia voters are eligible to participate in this election.
Voters who have moved since their last vote are encouraged to check their registration status at vote.elections.virginia.gov, by email at voters@alexandriava.gov, or by calling 703.746.4050. Those who do not update their records before the deadline may be required to use the same day registration process and cast provisional ballots.
New registrations can be submitted online before midnight on April 14 or in person at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections by 5 p.m. Mailed applications must be postmarked on or before April 14. Individuals registering through same day procedures must do so in person after the deadline either during early voting or on Election Day at their assigned polling location.
Early in-person voting continues until Saturday, April 18 at 5 p.m., with sample ballots and full voting hours available online at alexandriava.gov/Elections. Ballot drop boxes will be open at all polling places from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, with an additional secure outdoor drop box available around-the-clock outside the Office of Voter Registration and Elections until polls close.
Applications for mail-in ballots were due by Friday, April 10; completed mail-in ballots must arrive by Tuesday, April 21 or be postmarked by that date and received no later than noon Friday, April 24.
