The Arlington County Police Department released its daily crime report for August 25, 2025, detailing several significant incidents that occurred in the county over recent days. The report covers events such as robberies, assaults, indecent exposures, and other offenses.
On August 23 at approximately 9:06 p.m., police responded to a robbery by force at the 1100 block of S. Joyce Street. According to the report, “the female suspect entered the business, collected merchandise and attempted to exit the store without payment during which she was confronted by loss prevention personnel. The suspect shoved loss prevention personnel before running from the scene.” Officers later located and arrested Maya Selmar Turner, 29, of Washington D.C., who was charged with Assault on Police and Robbery. She is being held without bond.
Another robbery occurred earlier that day at around 6:26 a.m. in the 4900 block of Columbia Pike. The suspect allegedly tried to steal cigarettes after an employee refused his request to set them on the counter before purchase. “A struggle ensued between two employees and the suspect during which he struck them and fled the scene on foot with the unpaid merchandise.” Ricky Garner, 56, of Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with two counts of Robbery.
In a separate incident on August 23 at about 7:54 p.m., police were called to a robbery in the 1000 block of S. Hayes Street where “the male suspect allegedly entered the business, concealed merchandise and exited the store without payment.” After being confronted outside by loss prevention staff, “the suspect stuck and bit them.” John Moye III, 55, of Washington D.C., was arrested for Robbery and Possession of Schedule I/II Controlled Substance.
Two cases of indecent exposure were reported over this period. On August 24 at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers responded to a welfare check in the 4800 block of Columbia Pike where they found Luis Alejandro Diaz Rodriguez exposing himself; he was also charged with Giving False Identity to Law Enforcement and Credit Card Theft due to additional findings during their investigation. Another arrest for indecent exposure occurred on August 25 at Wilson Boulevard at N. Kansas Street when Bryan Otero Rubio was taken into custody for exposing himself on a sidewalk.
Other notable incidents included malicious wounding by caustic substance involving juveniles inside a restroom in a business on S. Hayes Street; several ongoing investigations into robberies across local businesses; unlawful entry attempts; destruction of property; larcenies; trespassing; shoplifting; assault and battery; threats; eluding police; recovered stolen vehicles; frauds; identity thefts; harassment; suspicious circumstances; as well as larceny from auto.
Arlington County Public Schools District enrolled more than twenty-seven thousand students during the previous school year according to data from state education authorities (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). White students made up just under forty-two percent of enrollment while Hispanic students accounted for about thirty percent (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Washington Liberty High School had the highest enrollment among all schools in Arlington County last year (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home), while Montessori Public School of Arlington led pre-kindergarten enrollment (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home).
The police remind residents that all individuals arrested or charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
