Arlington County Police report robberies and other crimes for September 26

The Arlington County Police Department released its daily crime report for September 26, 2025, summarizing significant incidents from the previous day. The report includes details on robberies, sexual battery, property destruction, and other offenses.

In one robbery incident at the 3300 block of Columbia Pike around 9:03 p.m. on September 25, police responded to a larceny in progress. According to the initial investigation, a male suspect allegedly concealed merchandise and tried to leave a store when confronted by an employee. The suspect struck the employee before fleeing on foot. Officers later found a person matching the description near 7th Street S. and S. Glebe Road and arrested him. Suspected narcotics were also recovered during the investigation. John McCoy, 28, of Arlington, was charged with Robbery and Possession of Schedule I/II Controlled Substance and held without bond.

Another robbery occurred at the 2700 block of 9th Street S. at about 10:43 p.m., involving two victims who were assaulted after a verbal dispute escalated. One suspect allegedly used pepper spray on the victims before both suspects chased them, assaulted them further, and stole their cellphones and electronics. Medics treated the victims for injuries related to pepper spray exposure at the scene. Warrants for Robbery (x2) were obtained for one identified suspect; the second suspect remains unidentified as a thin-build Black female about 5’5”. The investigation continues.

A sexual battery was reported in the early hours of September 26 in the 2400 block of Columbia Pike. A female victim reported that while walking in the area, she was approached by a male who engaged her in conversation and then touched her inappropriately. When she threatened to call police, he displayed a knife and fled after knocking her phone down. The suspect is described as a heavyset Hispanic male with a short black beard wearing a blue and black hat, red and blue shirt, and riding an electric scooter.

Police also responded to multiple reports of property destruction on September 25 at approximately 11:32 p.m., where ten vehicles had their tires slashed in the area of S. Fern Street. The suspect is described as an Asian male wearing a tan jacket, blue jeans, and black hat.

Other incidents included peeping on September 20 at a residence on North 21st Street; attempted burglary at Wilson Boulevard between September 24-25; several larcenies; shoplifting; assault; fraud; trespassing; obstructing justice; stolen vehicle reports; extortion; identity theft; suspicious circumstances; and additional cases of property destruction.

Arlington County Public Schools District serves as the only school district in Arlington County with an enrollment of 27,536 students during the 2023-24 school year according to data from the Virginia Department of Education (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Washington Liberty High School recorded the highest student enrollment among local schools that year with 2,904 students (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). White students made up about 41.9% (11,534 students) of total enrollment followed by Hispanic students at roughly 30.3% (8,335 students) (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Total countywide enrollment saw a slight decrease compared to last year’s figures (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Montessori Public School of Arlington enrolled more pre-kindergarteners than any other county school during this period (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home).

The police remind residents that all individuals arrested or charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
