Arlington Police detail assaults, robberies in latest crime report

The Arlington County Police Department released its crime report for August 18, 2025, detailing a range of incidents from the previous days. The report includes significant criminal activity but is not comprehensive for all police events in the county.

One of the major incidents reported was a case of malicious wounding by mob and robbery on the 4800 block of Columbia Pike late on August 16. According to police, a victim was assaulted and robbed by five male suspects, one known to him. The group allegedly struck the victim with a bat and took his wallet before fleeing. Later that night, three suspects returned to the area and threatened the victim with what appeared to be machetes. Police responded quickly, locating and arresting three individuals: Marvin Martinez Ruano (25), Jeffrey Lovos Luna (29), both of Arlington, VA, and Gustavo Ramirez Flores (18), who has no fixed address. Officers recovered two machetes and two bats at the scene. All three were charged with multiple offenses including assault and battery by mob, malicious wounding by mob, and robbery. “The investigation is ongoing,” police said.

In another incident on August 16 around 2:17 a.m., officers responded to an assault outside a business in the 4100 block of Columbia Pike. The victim reportedly tried to intervene in a physical altercation when he was struck with a glass bottle, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries. Everth Escobar Catari (29) of Arlington was arrested nearby and charged with malicious wounding and public intoxication.

Police also investigated a burglary on August 17 at a residence in the 4200 block of N. Pershing Drive where a suspect known to the victim entered his home and stole his credit card before fleeing.

Additional incidents listed in the report include several cases of shoplifting across locations such as S. Hayes Street and Washington Boulevard; fraud reports; multiple instances of assault and battery; harassment; destruction of property; larceny from auto; vehicle tampering; suspicious circumstances; extortion; identity theft; threats; recovered stolen vehicles; disorderly conduct; burglary; larceny from businesses or residences; as well as online reports related to fraud or larceny.

Arlington County Public Schools District serves as the only school district within Arlington County, enrolling 27,536 students during the 2023-24 school year according to state education records https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home. Among these schools, Washington Liberty High School had the highest enrollment at 2,904 students https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home during that period.

Demographic data shows white students made up about 41.9% (11,534) while Hispanic students accounted for roughly 30.3% (8,335) of total enrollment https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home during this academic year.

Overall enrollment for Arlington County schools slightly decreased by 0.2% compared to last year’s figures https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home.

Among pre-kindergarten programs countywide in that same year, Montessori Public School of Arlington enrolled more pre-K students than any other school—103 children—making up nearly one-eighth of all pre-kindergarteners enrolled across local schools https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home.
