The Arlington County Police Department released its daily crime report for August 15, 2025, summarizing significant incidents from the previous day. The report includes information on a shooting, an attempted robbery, and several cases of larceny, fraud, threats, and other offenses.
According to police, at approximately 9:42 p.m. on August 14, officers responded to the 2500 block of S. Adams Street after receiving reports of an individual with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, they found an adult male inside a residence who was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Firearms were recovered from the scene and the investigation into the circumstances continues.
In another incident reported at about 4:03 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of S. Hayes Street for an attempted robbery at a business. Authorities determined that “the male suspect entered the business, concealed merchandise and attempted to exit without payment during which loss prevention personnel confronted him. The suspect dropped the merchandise and struck the loss prevention personnel before fleeing the scene on foot.” No injuries were reported in this case. Officers searched for but did not locate the suspect described as a Black male between 20-30 years old wearing all black clothing.
Additional incidents listed in the report include larcenies from vehicles and businesses across various locations such as N. Pollard Street at Fairfax Drive and Clarendon Boulevard; eluding police near S. Monroe Street at S. Walter Reed Drive; multiple reports of threats; suspicious circumstances; and several cases of fraud throughout Arlington County.
Police note that “information contained in the Daily Crime Report is generally based on initial reports made to the Police Department” and that details may change as investigations progress.
Arlington County is also home to one public school district which enrolled 27,536 students during the 2023-24 school year according to state data (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). The county’s largest high school by enrollment was Washington Liberty High School with nearly three thousand students (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Demographically, white students made up just over forty percent of enrollment while Hispanic students accounted for thirty percent (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Total student numbers decreased slightly compared to last year (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home), with Montessori Public School of Arlington enrolling more pre-kindergarten students than any other school in Arlington County (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home).
The police department reminds residents that all individuals arrested or charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
