Each month, Arlington Public Schools (APS) recognizes staff members who have made significant contributions to their school communities. The APS All Stars program highlights employees who show excellence in collaboration, equity, inclusivity, integrity, innovation and stewardship.
For January 2026, five staff members were named APS All Stars for their work supporting students and colleagues.
Raphael Villacrusis, a teacher at Arlington Science Focus School, was recognized for his approach to science education. “His hands-on science teaching sparks curiosity, builds confidence and brings learning to life for every student. Thank you for your energy, care and leadership,” said Dr. Francisco DurĂ¡n, Superintendent of Arlington County Public Schools.
Villacrusis is known for transforming scientific concepts into engaging activities that make learning memorable. He also leads student groups and organized the recent Outside the Box Day event where students designed projects by grade level to enhance scientific learning.
Rosa Segovia from Escuela Key was also honored. “Her kindness, care and commitment help students feel supported, understood and ready to grow each day. Thank you for all you do for our learners,” Dr. DurĂ¡n stated.
Segovia is recognized by families and colleagues as a patient teacher who builds strong relationships with her students and provides guidance in a supportive classroom environment.
Ken Diaz of Ashlawn Elementary School received recognition as well. “He builds strong connections with students and families and creates a classroom rooted in trust, creativity and encouragement. Thank you for helping students thrive,” said Dr. DurĂ¡n.
Diaz works to create an engaging environment from the first day of school by using creative strategies tailored to individual student needs.
Samantha Dudding serves as Student Support Coordinator at Hoffman-Boston Elementary School. She was acknowledged for her collaborative work supporting both staff development and family engagement: “Her collaborative work and advocacy strengthen support for students and families across our community. Thank you for your leadership and care,” Dr. DurĂ¡n noted.
Dudding also serves on the board of Speech, Language and Hearing of Virginia where she advocates at state and national levels on behalf of students with disabilities.
Randall Stewart is Band Director at Gunston Middle School. According to Dr. DurĂ¡n: “His energy and encouragement help students grow as musicians and teammates and shine with confidence on and off the stage.”
Stewart helps students develop musically regardless of skill level while leading ensembles with positivity that fosters pride among participants.
APS officials state that these honorees represent the best qualities within the district’s workforce by helping create safe environments where students can learn effectively.
