Arlington Public Schools partnered with the Military Child Education Coalition on May 1, bringing together nearly 90 students and staff from 14 schools for a day of training through the Student 2 Student program.
The event aimed to help student leaders and advisors learn how to create more welcoming school communities, especially for military-connected students who often move between schools. Participants engaged in interactive sessions focused on inclusion, building peer connections, and developing strategies to support new students during transitions.
Organizers said the energy throughout the day showed a shared commitment among attendees. The district plans to use what was learned at the event to strengthen support networks and provide more opportunities for all students across Arlington Public Schools.
The district thanked trainers, school advisors, and the Washington-Liberty High School team for their roles in making the event possible. Feedback will be collected from participating schools to guide future efforts. Plans are already underway to offer similar training next year as part of Arlington’s ongoing work supporting military-connected youth.
Student 2 Student is a peer-led program started by the Military Child Education Coalition in 2004. Its goal is to help new students feel welcome and supported as they adjust to new school environments.
