Arlington Public Schools recognized five staff members as APS All Stars on Apr. 24 for their exceptional support of students, families, and colleagues. The honorees were selected for demonstrating excellence in collaboration, equity, inclusivity, integrity, innovation, and stewardship.

The APS All Stars program aims to highlight individuals who make a significant impact within the school division. The latest group of honorees includes Cathy Lin from Facilities & Operations (Trades), Tahira Rehman from Oakridge Elementary School, Eric Bowers from Taylor Elementary School, Alesandra Sandin from Yorktown High School, and Jen Dodd from Discovery Elementary School.

Cathy Lin was recognized for her critical role in real property, planning and risk management. According to Arlington Public Schools (APS), “Her thoughtful, data-driven approach helps ensure that resources are aligned with both current needs and long-term priorities.” Lin is also praised for building strong partnerships across teams to support instructional and student needs.

Tahira Rehman was honored as a compassionate educator dedicated to equity and inclusion. “She leads with empathy and brings a deep commitment to equity and inclusion in every aspect of her work,” APS said. Eric Bowers was described as a positive leader who fosters an inclusive environment through physical education at Taylor Elementary: “He works closely with colleagues, students and families to create an inclusive environment where all students can thrive.” His leadership extends beyond the classroom through coaching and extracurricular activities.

Alesandra Sandin received recognition for her professionalism during urgent circumstances at Yorktown High School when she supported families requiring alternative testing arrangements: “Her responsiveness and commitment provided stability and support for students navigating challenging circumstances.” Jen Dodd was commended as an innovative educator at Discovery Elementary who develops engaging curriculum: “She develops thoughtful, engaging curriculum that supports students at all levels… Her dedication, kindness and commitment to student growth make a lasting impact at Discovery.”

APS concluded by thanking its All Stars: “Their work helps ensure students learn and thrive in supportive and engaging environments. Congratulations to these honorees and thank you for all you do.”

Twenty Arlington Public Schools students took part in this year’s All-Virginia music ensembles held in Richmond. The event gathered over 700 top student musicians statewide for rehearsals and performances led by national conductors.

Fifteen Arlington Public Schools students receive national Scholastic Art Awards recognition

Fifteen students from Arlington Public Schools earned national medals at this year’s Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The honored works were selected from over 340,000 entries nationwide. Winners may attend a ceremony at Carnegie Hall and have their art exhibited in New York.
