Virginia health officials have noted a rise in measles cases in Northern Virginia, according to information shared with Arlington Public Schools families and staff. While the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has not declared an outbreak or found evidence of community spread, officials are emphasizing the role of vaccination in preventing disease.
“Measles is a virus that spreads very easily. If one person has measles, 9 out of 10 people around them will get it if they have not been vaccinated or are not immune,” the statement said.
Health authorities are urging parents and guardians to ensure their children’s vaccinations are up-to-date as a precautionary measure. Vaccines remain one of the most effective ways to prevent measles transmission within schools and communities.
