Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has presented a series of tweets critiquing economic measures and the associated responsibility of former President Donald Trump. Currently residing in Alexandria, Beyer has been vocal on his social media platforms regarding U.S economic policies and their impacts.

On April 30, 2025, Rep. Beyer tweeted, “100 days ago Trump declared ‘our golden age has just begun.’ His inaugural speech began with the line ‘From this day forward, our country will flourish.’ This morning’s economic news is so bad that Trump is now trying to distance himself from the economy. His tariffs did this.”

Later the same day, Beyer further elaborated on the economic state, stating, “The economy is shrinking, consumer confidence is plummeting, markets are down, inflation and recession risks are up, and Donald Trump is trying to find someone else to blame. Don’t be fooled: Trump’s chaos caused this.”

In another tweet from April 30, Beyer addresses fiscal issues, asserting, “This is made up—they spent more money, not less. ‘DOGE’ will cost more money via payouts and legal settlements, plus cost of hiring and training replacements. And they’re about to pass trillions in deficit-funded tax cuts for the rich. This is all BS.”

Rep. Don Beyer was born in 1950 in the Free Territory of Trieste. Educated at Williams College where he graduated in 1972, Beyer has been a long-standing representative known for his scrutiny of federal economic policies.
