City of Alexandria adjusts office hours and services due to winter storm

All City of Alexandria government offices and facilities will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, according to an updated announcement from city officials.

The Alexandria Courts will be closed on the same day. Residents are advised to check individual court websites for the latest information about operating status.

The Winter Shelter located at 2355-A Mill Road is currently offering extended, 24-hour operations until Tuesday, February 3 at noon.

Trash, recycling, yard waste, and curbside composting collection have been canceled for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week. There will not be any make-up runs for these days.

A Snow Emergency declaration remains in effect in Alexandria through Tuesday, January 27 at 11:59 p.m., with city crews continuing snow removal efforts. For updates on the City’s response to the winter storm, residents can visit alexandriava.gov/Alert.

Residents can report downed trees or limbs on city streets and property by calling 703.746.4444 for non-emergency concerns. Issues related to power lines or outages should be reported to Dominion Energy at 866.DOM.HELP (866.366.4357) or via dominionenergy.com. Water main breaks or water service questions should be directed to Virginia American Water at 800.452.6863.

In emergencies, residents are instructed to call 911.
