All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day. The closure affects a range of city services and facilities.
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) offices will not be open on the holiday. DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule, and DASH Administrative Offices will also be closed.
The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) will not be open on September 1. For animal emergencies or wildlife concerns, residents can call 703.746.4444.
All local courts—including the General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Court Service Unit, Circuit Court, and Clerk of Circuit Court—will be closed for the day.
Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices are closed for Labor Day; however, more than 50 DMV services remain available online at https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/.
Emergency hotlines such as Child Protective Services (703.746.5800), Domestic Violence Hotline (703.746.4911), Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline (703.746.3401), Adult Protective Services hotline (703.746.5778 or 988), and Sexual Assault Hotline (703.683.7273) will continue to operate around the clock throughout the holiday.
Health facilities including the Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and Teen Wellness Center will be closed on September 1.
Historic Alexandria sites Gadsby’s Tavern Museum and Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will remain open from 1 to 5 p.m., while all other Historic Alexandria museums are closed for the day.
The city’s impound lot is closed on weekends and observed holidays; fees accrue on Saturdays and Sundays but not during holidays.
All Alexandria Libraries are scheduled to close for Labor Day.
Parking enforcement by the Alexandria Police Department at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts is suspended for the holiday; however, restrictions still apply in prohibited locations and temporary no-parking signs remain enforced.
Old Town Pool and Warwick Pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., while all other recreation facilities and nature centers operated by the city are closed that day.
Residential refuse collection—including recycling, curbside food waste, and yard waste—will not occur on September 1; collection services resume one day later than usual for the rest of that week. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center is also closed for Labor Day.
