All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Monday, October 13, 2025, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The closure affects a range of city services and facilities.

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) offices will also be closed on the holiday.

The Alexandria Transit Company (DASH) will operate its bus service on a weekend schedule for the day. Lines 102, 103, and 104 will not run. Regular weekday service is set to resume on Tuesday, October 14. The King Street Trolley will continue to run daily every 15 minutes from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. DASH administrative offices will be closed as well.

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) will remain open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For animal emergencies or wildlife concerns, residents can call 703.746.4444.

All courts—including the General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Court Service Unit, Circuit Court, and Clerk of Circuit Court—will be closed.

Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices are also scheduled to close for the holiday; however, more than fifty DMV services remain available online at all times through dmv.virginia.gov.

Emergency hotlines such as Child Protective Services (703.746.5800), Domestic Violence Hotline (703.746.4911), Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline (703.746.3401), Adult Protective Services hotline (703.746.5778 or 988), and Sexual Assault Hotline (703.683.7273) will continue operating around the clock.

Health facilities including the Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and Teen Wellness Center will be closed for the day.

Historic sites Gadsby’s Tavern Museum and Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum are open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., while other Historic Alexandria museums are closed.

The city’s impound lot is closed on weekends and observed holidays; fees accrue over weekends but not during holidays.

All Alexandria Libraries are scheduled to close for Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Parking enforcement by the Alexandria Police Department at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts is suspended for legal parking spaces only; restrictions still apply in prohibited locations and temporary no-parking signs remain enforced.

Chinquapin Park Recreation Center & Aquatics Facility, Charles Houston Recreation Center, and Patrick Henry Recreation Center are open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while other recreation facilities and nature centers are closed.

Residential refuse collection—including recycling, curbside food waste, and yard waste—will not occur on October 13; collections shift one day later for the rest of that week as a result of the holiday schedule change affecting municipal waste management operations citywide.

The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center is also closed that Monday.

Torpedo Factory Art Center remains open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; visitors can check torpedofactory.org/todays-hours for updates about occasional early closures at this facility.
