The City of Alexandria announced on Apr. 29 that it will host a special exhibition of Croatian postage stamps at the Torpedo Factory Art Center from May 4 through May 10.

The free event offers residents and visitors an opportunity to view Croatia’s history, culture, and natural beauty through philately, the art of stamp collecting. The exhibition is designed to highlight historic milestones, notable figures, innovations, and scenic wonders from Croatia.

According to the announcement, the collection features stamps commemorating events such as the 1100th Anniversary of the Kingdom of Croatia and the 900th Anniversary of the Baška Tablet. Notable individuals like Dr. Franjo Tuđman and soccer player Luka Modrić are also represented. Other themes include Croatian inventions such as the torpedo and cravat, Mediterranean ships along the coast, and religious sites like the Shrine of Marija Bistrica. The exhibit spans over thirty-five years of independent postal history.

The City reports that its museums and historic sites help strengthen community identity by interpreting local social and cultural history according to its official website. It also maintains facilities such as the Alexandria Black History Museum to document African American heritage as noted on its official website. The city incorporates racial and social equity into policy decisions for fair outcomes per its official website.

Alexandria operates under a council-manager form of government where city operations are overseen by a manager selected by council members according to its official website. As an independent city with defined boundaries, it provides services for residents, businesses, and visitors according to its official website. Archaeological research in Alexandria is supported through partnerships between agencies, institutions, residents, and commissions such as the Alexandria Archaeological Commission according to its official website.

The Croatian Post and Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs collaborated in presenting this collection. The City invites everyone interested in international culture or philately to visit during regular gallery hours.
