City of Alexandria closes offices and extends shelter hours due to winter storm

All City of Alexandria government offices and facilities, including courts, will be closed on Monday, January 26. This closure is in response to ongoing winter weather conditions.

The Winter Shelter at 2355-A Mill Road will operate around the clock until Wednesday, January 28 at 7 a.m., providing extended services for those in need during the storm.

A Snow Emergency declaration remains in effect for Alexandria through Tuesday, January 27 at 11:59 p.m. City crews are continuing efforts to remove snow from streets and public areas. Residents can find updates on the city’s winter storm response by visiting alexandriava.gov/Alert.

For non-emergency concerns such as downed trees or limbs on city property, residents are advised to call 703.746.4444. Issues related to power lines or outages should be reported to Dominion Energy at 866.DOM.HELP (866.366.4357) or through dominionenergy.com. Water main breaks or questions about water service can be directed to Virginia American Water at 800.452.6863. Emergencies should be reported by calling 911.
