The City of Alexandria is seeking public feedback on two projects related to its Housing 2040 initiative, as well as revised draft principles and goals for the program.
Residents are encouraged to review and comment on the Landlord Tenant Rights and Resources Draft Recommendations by completing the Landlord Tenant Draft Recommendations Comment Form by September 25. Feedback on the Homeowner Programs and Resources Draft Recommendations can be submitted using the Homeowner Programs Recommendations Comment Form until October 19. Comments on the Revised Principles and Goals may also be provided through the Revised Principles and Goals Comment Form by October 19.
The Office of Housing presented these drafts during a community meeting held on September 8, where updates about the Housing 2040 timeline and other ongoing projects were shared.
According to city officials, “The 2013 Housing Master Plan (HMP) established principles, goals, and strategies to address Alexandria’s housing needs through 2025. In collaboration with the community and local partners, the City is undertaking an update to the HMP through 2040.” The updated plan will build upon work started with a Housing Needs Assessment and aims to set new housing affordability targets while reviewing policies, programs, and tools that support residents and workers in Alexandria. The current plan concludes in 2025.
Information from past meetings—including presentations from March’s Principles and Goals Community Meeting, April’s Preservation Panel Discussion, and other Housing 2040 topics—can be accessed at alexandriava.gov/HousingPlan. The city also provides updates via its eNews service, website, X (@HousingAlexVA), and Facebook (@HousingAlexandriaVA).
