The City of Alexandria’s Office of Housing will hold a community open house on February 28 to present and gather feedback on the draft recommendations for the Housing 2040 Plan. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nannie J Lee Memorial Recreation Center, located at 1108 Jefferson St, Alexandria, VA.
Topics covered during the open house include affordable housing preservation, homeowner resources, landlord-tenant rights, financial tools for affordable housing, housing options for seniors and people with disabilities, housing diversity and supply, connections between housing and health, and sustainability in housing. Draft recommendations are expected to be available ahead of the event through the Housing 2040 Plan website.
The format will feature an open house with breakout sessions and presentations. Registration is strongly encouraged to assist with planning; attendees can register using an online form provided by the city. Interpretation services are available if requested by February 21 via the registration form or by contacting Christopher.Do@alexandriava.gov.
Parking is available near the recreation center, and DASH bus route 34 provides direct transit service to the location.
The update follows Alexandria’s 2013 Housing Master Plan (HMP), which set out strategies to address local housing needs through 2025. The new Housing 2040 process aims to establish updated affordability goals and review policies supporting residents and workers in Alexandria. Presentations and recordings from previous meetings are accessible on alexandriava.gov/HousingPlan. The draft plan is scheduled for public hearings in June 2026.
For further updates on Housing 2040 or questions about registration or accommodations for disabilities, residents can visit the Housing 2040 website or contact city staff via email or phone.
