The City of Alexandria’s Office of Housing is inviting residents to attend an open house and community meeting on September 8 to discuss draft recommendations for two projects under the Housing 2040 initiative: Landlord Tenant Rights and Resources, and Homeowner Programs and Resources. The event will also cover proposed revisions to the Housing 2040 principles and goals, which are intended to guide the development of the Housing 2040 Master Plan. Updates from the Alexandria Health Department regarding the Healthy Homes Initiative and Community Health Improvement Plan will also be presented.

The event is scheduled for Monday, September 8, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Minnie Howard Campus at Alexandria City High School, located at 3775 W. Braddock Road in Alexandria. The evening will begin with an open house from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring information boards about ongoing Housing 2040 projects as well as details from the city’s recently completed 2025 Rental Housing Analysis. Staff members from the Office of Housing, Department of Community and Human Services, and Alexandria Health Department will be available during this time.

From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., a community meeting will take place that includes a presentation on draft recommendations followed by a question-and-answer session and discussion.

Registration for the event is optional but encouraged; interested participants can register online using a provided link.

A light dinner will be served at the event, with Spanish interpretation services available onsite. Attendees requiring interpretation in other languages are asked to register online or contact Christopher.Do@alexandriava.gov by September 1 to specify their language needs.

According to city officials, “The 2013 Housing Master Plan (HMP) established principles, goals, and strategies to address Alexandria’s housing needs through 2025. In collaboration with the community and local partners, the City is undertaking an update to the HMP through 2040.” The city notes that presentations and recordings from previous meetings related to Housing 2040 are accessible online at alexandriava.gov/HousingPlan.

The current Housing Master Plan concludes in 2025; work on its successor began with a comprehensive housing needs assessment designed to set new affordability targets while reviewing policies meant to support all residents and workers in Alexandria.
