The City of Alexandria’s Office of Housing will hold an open house and community meeting on Monday, September 8, to gather public feedback on draft recommendations for two Housing 2040 projects: Landlord Tenant Rights and Resources and Homeowner Programs and Resources. The event will also include proposed revisions to the Housing 2040 principles and goals that will shape the upcoming Housing 2040 Master Plan. Updates from the Alexandria Health Department on the Healthy Homes Initiative and Community Health Improvement Plan are also scheduled.

The meeting is set for September 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Minnie Howard Campus at Alexandria City High School, located at 3775 W. Braddock Road in Alexandria. An open house with information boards about ongoing Housing 2040 projects and details from the recently completed 2025 Rental Housing Analysis will run from 6 to 7 p.m. Resource staff from several city departments, including the Office of Housing, Department of Community and Human Services, and Alexandria Health Department, will be present during this time.

From 7 to 9 p.m., there will be a presentation followed by a question-and-answer session focused on draft recommendations related to housing programs.

Registration for the event is optional but encouraged. Attendees can register online through a provided link.

A light dinner will be available at the event, with interpretation services offered in Spanish and Dari. Those needing interpretation in other languages are asked to register or contact Christopher.Do@alexandriava.gov by September 1 with their language preference.

The city is updating its current housing policy framework as established in the 2013 Housing Master Plan, which set strategies addressing local housing needs through 2025. The new process—known as Housing 2040—aims to create updated affordability goals and examine policies that support residents and workers across Alexandria as the current plan nears its end in 2025.

Presentations and recordings from previous meetings about Housing 2040 are available online for those interested in learning more about past discussions or tracking ongoing progress.

For further updates on Housing 2040, residents can visit the program’s website or follow @HousingAlexVA on X (formerly Twitter) or @HousingAlexandriaVA on Facebook.

Questions regarding registration can be directed to Christopher.Do@alexandriava.gov or by calling (703)746-3084. For disability accommodations, Gabriella DiLena may be contacted at (703)746-3089, Virginia Relay 711, or gabriella.dilena@alexandriava.gov.
