The Civil War Artillery Day scheduled for September 27 at Fort Ward Museum & Historic Site has been cancelled due to expected inclement weather. The event, which was planned as an outdoor program, will not take place as a result of the forecast. In a statement, Historic Alexandria said, “Historic Alexandria regrets that it has to cancel this weather dependent event.”

The annual program was set to offer visitors insights into the role and equipment of Civil War artillerymen who served in the Defenses of Washington. Reenactors from the 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery were expected to demonstrate camp life and provide cannon firing demonstrations.

Fort Ward is known as the best preserved Union fort among those built for the defense of Washington during the Civil War. The site is located at 4301 West Braddock Road in Alexandria.
