Nicholas Freitas, a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, said that reductions in government subsidies to Planned Parenthood have led to clinic closures and impacted campaign fundraising for Democrats. The statement was made on X.

“Planned Parenthood can’t stay afloat killing babies without tens of millions annually in government subsidies,” said Nicholas J. Freitas, Virginia State Representative for 62nd District. “To keep those subsidies coming they give a large portion to Democrats in the form of campaign contributions. Now that it’s been cut, PP is closing clinics and the Democrats are having a hard time fundraising, because they can’t launder your tax dollars through the abortion industry. So basically…win/win!!”

Government funding for Planned Parenthood has been subject to ongoing legislative changes and challenges. According to NPR, several states have enacted laws to restrict public funds for clinics providing abortion services, while federal debates have focused on Title X and Medicaid.

The Guttmacher Institute reports that over 60 Planned Parenthood clinics have closed across the United States since 2015. The organization’s funding is derived from federal and state government sources, private donors, and service fees.

OpenSecrets indicates that during the 2022 election cycle, Planned Parenthood and its affiliated Political Action Committees (PACs) contributed approximately $10 million to political candidates and parties, with most contributions directed towards Democrats.

Freitas is a Republican member of the Virginia House of Delegates. He is known for his advocacy of limited government, opposition to abortion, and background as a U.S. Army Green Beret, according to Ballotpedia.
