Geary Higgins, a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, said that the Department of Education’s decision requiring Loudoun County Public Schools to rescind certain policies is a significant step for parental rights and student safety. This statement was made on X.

“The United States Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has found Loudoun County Public Schools in violation of Title IX and ordered them to rescind their policies (8040) which allow for men in women’s spaces and sports (and vice versa,” said Geary Michael Higgins, Virginia State Representative for 30th District. “This is a tremendous WIN for parents, student safety, and common sense!”

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights recently found Loudoun County Public Schools in violation of Title IX for mishandling sexual harassment complaints and not adhering to federal procedures for student safety. As reported by The Washington Post, this ruling has intensified the national debate over school accountability and Title IX compliance.

According to the Virginia Department of Education’s 2023 report, Virginia school districts recorded 58 Title IX complaints last year. These resulted in 12 federal investigations and several required policy changes, reflecting ongoing federal oversight in the state’s education system.

A 2024 analysis by Education Week indicates that national Title IX-related policy changes have increased sharply since 2020, particularly those affecting student bathroom and sports team access. At least 20 states have adopted new rules or are facing legal challenges over gender identity and equal access.

According to Ballotpedia, Higgins is a Republican candidate for the Virginia Senate and a former Loudoun County Board of Supervisors member. He is known for advocating parental rights and greater transparency in school policies, especially regarding education oversight.
