U.S. Representative Don Beyer, who has served Virginia’s 8th District since 2015, recently addressed issues related to federal worker support and health care policy in a series of posts on his social media account.
On October 8, 2025, Beyer highlighted the financial difficulties faced by federal employees during government shutdowns, stating, “When paychecks stop during a shutdown, bills don’t. My Emergency Relief for Federal Workers Act would allow our civil servants to tap retirement savings without penalty to get through tough times during a government shutdown. We owe them that much.”
The following day, October 9, 2025, Beyer criticized Republican approaches to health care policy. He wrote, “He doesn’t have a health care plan. Republicans have never had a health care plan — all they do is cut Medicaid, raise health insurance prices, and kick people off of coverage.”
Later the same day, Beyer responded to comments by Republican lawmakers regarding rising health care costs. He posted, “Mike Johnson and other Republicans in Congress keep claiming that skyrocketing health care costs are ‘a December issue,’ that it can just be fixed later and doesn’t matter right now. This is flatly not true, and here’s why. 1/”
Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District in Congress since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and resides in Alexandria. Beyer is also an alumnus of Williams College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1972.
