Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, recently addressed several national and international issues in a series of posts on his official Twitter account.
On October 9, 2025, Beyer commented on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, stating: “That can’t happen on the scale needed until the threat of imminent violence recedes not just from the Gaza Strip but from Israel, the West Bank, and the wider region. This war has been a catastrophe for Palestinians and Israelis alike. We must not allow this conflict to resume.”
The following day, October 10, Beyer reported on legislative developments in Congress: “House Republican leaders just made this official: votes in the House next week are cancelled. Recess for the fourth week in a row.”
Later that same day, he criticized political rhetoric used by some members of Congress regarding free speech: “The very people who were loudest in lecturing us on political rhetoric now label millions of Americans peacefully exercising their constitutional right to free speech ‘terrorist’ because they don’t hold conservative views. Disgraceful and unacceptable @GOPMajorityWhip.”
Beyer’s comments come amid heightened tensions both internationally and domestically. The conflict between Israel and Palestinian territories has drawn widespread attention due to its humanitarian impact on civilians across the region.
In Congress, internal disputes have led to multiple weeks without scheduled votes—a rare occurrence that underscores ongoing partisan divisions.
Don Beyer was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. He graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
