U.S. Representative Don Beyer, who has served Virginia’s 8th District in Congress since 2015, recently used his social media platform to comment on a range of political issues including government accountability, health care policy, and civil liberties.
On January 8, 2026, Beyer criticized the Trump Administration in a tweet that stated: “The Trump Administration is brazenly lying to justify murder, telling us to ignore what we’ve seen on video. We must honor Renee Good’s memory by demanding justice and accountability. Congress and authorities must investigate and hold the perpetrators accountable.”
Later that day, Beyer addressed ongoing debates over health care legislation. In his post from January 8, he wrote: “Every day more Americans are hurt by the Republican health care crisis. But Democrats put forward this bill to help the American people by extending health care tax credits, and forced a vote on it. Thanks to a few sensible colleagues on the other side, that bill just passed.”
Continuing his commentary into the following day, Beyer expressed concerns about government overreach and individual rights. On January 9, he posted: “Leaders in the party that once claimed to stand for individual freedom and limited government now say if you don’t do what the masked men say, regardless of whether their orders are legal or contradictory, you won’t ‘get to keep your life.’ They may kill you without trial.”
Don Beyer was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. He graduated from Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972. Beyer succeeded Jim Moran as representative for Virginia’s 8th district.
