U.S. Representative Don Beyer, who serves Virginia’s 8th district, used his social media platform this week to address both the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and ongoing national political developments.

On January 19, 2026, Beyer marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a message from Falls Church: “In Falls Church this morning celebrating Dr. King’s legacy and struggle for freedom, justice, and equality. Thanks to all who came out!”

The following day, on January 20, Beyer criticized former President Donald Trump in a post at 13:19 UTC: “This is the behavior of a mad king or a toddler, not a U.S. President.

Trump’s bizarre and erratic behavior is making us less safe and it’s long past time for Republicans in Congress to stand up to him.

This dangerous stupidity has to stop.”

Later that evening at 21:24 UTC, Beyer referenced new findings from Congress’ Joint Economic Committee regarding inflation under Trump’s administration: “NEW: a report released today by Congress’ Joint Economic Committee finds American families spent over $1,600 more during the past year under Trump because of inflation.

Trump promised to lower prices, and failed miserably.
