Representative Don Beyer, who has served Virginia’s 8th District in the U.S. Congress since 2015, recently addressed several policy concerns on social media. In a series of posts made between July 13 and July 14, 2025, Beyer commented on issues ranging from research funding to proposed federal budget cuts and the future of the Department of Education.

On July 13, Beyer criticized recent actions by the Trump administration regarding scientific research funding. He stated: “As the Trump administration cuts funds for important research across the country, we must reckon with the somber truth of what we stand to lose when science gets politicized and cast aside.”

The following day, July 14, Beyer highlighted remarks made by Republican leadership about potential changes to health care funding. He wrote: “Republican Chairman of the House Budget Committee says Republicans plan to expand cuts from their Big Ugly Bill to hit Medicaid even harder, and make new cuts to Medicare:”

Later on July 14, Beyer turned his attention to education policy. In response to reported efforts concerning the Department of Education’s workforce, he posted: “Every child in America deserves access to a quality education.

Congress created the Department of Education to keep that promise.

Trump cannot legally destroy @USEdGov by eliminating its workforce.

We will keep fighting as this case continues to move through the legal system.”

Don Beyer was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. He is an alumnus of Williams College (BA, class of 1972) and succeeded Jim Moran as representative for Virginia’s 8th District.
