Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district, shared his views on recent legislative actions and political matters through a series of tweets. Beyer, who has been in office since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran, expressed his concerns regarding the priorities of Republican legislation and other issues related to Capitol Hill.

On May 14, 2025, Rep. Beyer tweeted about a Republican bill, stating that “The unavoidable truth is that Republicans’ core priority with this legislation was to benefit the wealthy at the expense of everyone else, and that is exactly what their bill does.” He criticized the bill for prioritizing benefits for wealthier individuals.

The following day, May 15, 2025, Beyer continued his critique by addressing fiscal policies. He remarked that “Republicans have been yelling at us since I got here about deficits and debt.” He further highlighted the inconsistency he perceives in their approach by noting that they are now supporting a bill which “adds a truly insane amount of money to the debt — and mostly of the benefits just go to the wealthy.”

Later on May 15, Rep. Beyer joined forces with Rep. Eric Swalwell during Police Memorial Day to advocate for honoring January 6 heroes within the Capitol. In his tweet, he mentioned joining Swalwell in urging Speaker Johnson to display a plaque commemorating these individuals as mandated by law. He emphasized this call by sharing words from Officer Daniel Hodges, one of those recognized as heroes: “I just joined @RepSwalwell on Police Memorial Day to demand Speaker Johnson display the plaque honoring January 6 heroes in the Capitol as required by law.”

Born in Trieste in 1950 and residing in Alexandria, Don Beyer graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
