U.S. Representative Don Beyer, who has represented Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, posted a series of statements on his official Twitter account criticizing recent Republican-led efforts to restrict voting access and reaffirming constitutional protections for citizenship.
On March 31, 2026, Beyer wrote: “Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, but Donald Trump and Republicans are advancing efforts to make it harder for eligible Americans to vote in the midterms. I urge my Senate colleagues to vote NO on the SAVE America Act.”
In a follow-up post on April 1, 2026, Beyer stated: “Trump is pulling out all the stops to make it more difficult for eligible Americans to vote because he knows he and his administration are unpopular. He’s terrified Americans will turn out in droves to reject him and his allies in Congress. His executive order attacking voting”.
Later that day, Beyer addressed citizenship rights under U.S. law: “If you’re born in the United States, you are an American citizen. That’s a constitutional guarantee in the 14th Amendment and reaffirmed by court precedent, including US v. Wong Kim Ark. Any attempts to strip citizenship from people born on U.S. soil are unconstitutional.”
Beyer has been an active member of Congress since succeeding Jim Moran in 2015 and is known for representing Virginia’s 8th District. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. A graduate of Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts degree earned in 1972, Beyer continues to be vocal about issues related to voting rights and constitutional protections.
