Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed recent political developments on his Twitter account on July 25, 2025, sharing concerns about tariffs, NASA budget cuts, and redistricting reform.

In a tweet posted at 16:19 UTC, Beyer criticized former President Trump’s tariff policies, stating, “Trump’s ‘deals’ with Japan (15%) and the Philippines (19%) continue his trend of high tariffs on our allies, which will in turn raise prices in the U.S. These are tax increases that will be paid in higher costs by the American people — and it’s causing inflation to heat up.”

Later that day at 19:55 UTC, Beyer commented on recent changes to NASA under the Trump administration: “Following Trump’s awful, destructive cuts to NASA’s staff and budget, hundreds of NASA employees including astronauts, engineers, and scientists signed the Voyager Declaration protesting the Trump Administration actions that threaten NASA’s scientific integrity and mission”.

At 20:53 UTC on July 25, Beyer also addressed electoral reform efforts: “The best and fairest path forward on redistricting – still – is banning gerrymandering nationwide, once and for all. I reintroduced the Fair Representation Act with @RepRaskin and others, to make that dream a reality.”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. A graduate of Williams College with a BA earned in 1972, Beyer has maintained an active role in legislative matters related to economic policy and government reform throughout his tenure.
