Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on his social media account regarding recent claims and actions by Donald Trump and Russ Vought concerning federal workers, infrastructure projects, and health care tax credits.

On October 2, 2025, Beyer addressed assertions made by Trump and Vought about their authority during a government shutdown. He stated, “Russ Vought and Donald Trump claim they have new authority to continue and even increase their mass firings of federal workers during a shutdown. Call it ‘DOGE 2.0.’ But this is not true, not only do they not have more authority, they have less. It is illegal, in fact.”

Later that same day, Beyer commented on an announcement from Trump and Vought regarding infrastructure funding decisions: “Yesterday Trump and @russvought announced they will cancel infrastructure projects in states with Dem Senators. This is deeply corrupt. Trump and Vought will raise electricity prices for millions of Americans and kill jobs — including in districts represented by Republicans.”

On October 3, Beyer referenced polling data on Republican voter sentiment about health care tax credits: “A supermajority of *Republican* voters – including 57% of self-described “MAGA supporters” – want Congress to extend health care tax credits. Republicans & Trump are ignoring their own voters, forcing increased health care costs, and refusing to make a deal to end the shutdown.”

Beyer has served as the representative for Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. Beyer graduated from Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972.
