Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district, shared a series of tweets on May 7, 2025, criticizing actions taken by the Trump Administration regarding Dr. Badar Khan Suri’s legal case and related matters.

In a tweet posted at 17:10 UTC, Beyer claimed that “Dr. Badar Khan Suri is in Texas right now because the Trump Administration whisked him there to get a more favorable judicial environment to further trample his rights and the Constitution.” He commended Judge Giles for rejecting what he described as the administration’s “feeble lies and post hoc excuses.”

At 17:12 UTC, Beyer referenced Judge Giles’ observations that “the Trump Administration’s actions in Dr. Khan Suri’s case mirror similar behavior in other recent, high-profile cases including those of Mahmoud Khalil and Rümeysa Öztürk.” He criticized their strategy of moving students and scholars to distant detention centers.

Continuing his critique at 17:12 UTC, Beyer alleged that this practice was likely “organized, coordinated, and directed by a central authority in the administration.” He argued that if these actions were legitimate, transparency would be evident rather than secrecy.

Don Beyer has served in Congress since 2015 after replacing Jim Moran. Born in Trieste in 1950, he resides in Alexandria and holds a BA from Williams College obtained in 1972.
