U.S. Representative Don Beyer, who serves Virginia’s 8th district in Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing international conflict and domestic economic policy.

On August 25, 2025, Beyer commented on the ongoing violence affecting journalists and aid workers, stating: “These ‘tragic mishaps’ that kill journalists, aid workers, and healthcare workers keep happening. Apologies and investigations are not enough.

We need a ceasefire as soon as possible to stop the killing, bring hostages home, and provide desperately needed aid to people in Gaza.”

Later that day, on August 26, Beyer criticized former President Donald Trump’s reported actions regarding the Federal Reserve: “This is blatantly illegal, and Trump knows it.

Fed independence is vital to protect our economy from political interference. Trump is putting our financial system at risk over bogus claims of fraud—an offense of which he himself was convicted.

This will be fought in court.”

Continuing his focus on economic issues on August 26, Beyer wrote: “Prices are rising because of Trump’s tariffs.

Now Trump is trying to illegally fire Fed leaders to stop them from using interest rates to fight inflation.

If Trump gets his way, confidence in our economy will fall, the value of your dollars will go down, and prices will go up.”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from Williams College earned in 1972.
