Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district, candidly expressed his views on a range of issues via recent social media posts. On May 2, 2025, Beyer addressed legal concerns regarding former President Donald Trump, food security issues, and actions by ICE Agents.

In his first post of the day, Beyer asserted that what former President Trump is engaged in is blatantly unlawful. He remarked, “What Trump is doing is brazenly illegal, the law leaves no ambiguity.” This statement sheds light on the ongoing legal challenges surrounding Trump.

Later, Beyer discussed food insecurity, quoting chef and humanitarian José Andrés, “The dirty secret of our food economy is this: In many of the communities that grow and supply our food, far too many people can’t afford basic healthy meals.” He agreed with Andrés and expressed opposition to Republican initiatives that he believes would exacerbate the issue.

In his final post of the day, Beyer condemned certain practices by ICE Agents he describes as threatening. He stated, “Unidentified masked ICE Agents picking people up off the street or from their homes can create dangerous situations and contribute to a climate of fear. It undermines the public’s trust in law enforcement and is reminiscent of police states. It needs to stop.” Beyer’s remarks highlight his concerns about public trust and the implications of such enforcement methods.

Don Beyer, who was born in Trieste in 1950 and resides in Alexandria, has been representing Virginia’s 8th District since 2015. He is a Williams College alum, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1972.
