U.S. Representative Don Beyer, who has been representing Virginia’s 8th District since 2015, utilizes his social media platform to express concerns on national defense and economic policies. Born in Trieste in 1950, Beyer now resides in Alexandria after graduating from Williams College in 1972. In a series of social media posts, Beyer has addressed significant matters such as the accountability of defense officials and critiques of former President Trump’s economic measures.

In a post dated April 21, 2025, Beyer stated, “The Secretary of Defense is not above the law. He is not exempt from the standards every servicemember serving in the Department of Defense is held to.” This message emphasizes the importance of accountability within the Department of Defense’s leadership.

Following this on April 22, 2025, Beyer voiced his criticism of trade policies, “Trump’s reckless tariffs are destroying our economy. Congress has the power to put an end to this madness and reclaim its trade authority. We just need Republicans to step up.” Beyer argues that it is within Congress’s power to reverse these measures and restore its influence over trade policy.

Later same day, Beyer expounded on his views, “Here’s the reality: Trump’s plainly stupid tariff policies combined with Congressional Republicans’ so-called ‘one big, beautiful bill’ for reconciliation is a plan to play favors for the wealthy. The billionaires among us will receive major tax cuts while working Americans,.” Beyer criticized these policies for their perceived favoritism towards the wealthy and their negative implications on working Americans.
